Dennistoun Community Council will be holding three events on Tuesday 11th October at Whitehill Secondary School Lecture Theatre, 280 Onslow Drive, Dennistoun, G31 2QF (map here).
6.30pm: Prize-giving
Presentation of awards to winners of the 2011 Dennistoun Treasure Hunt, organised by Dennistoun Community Council. In the week between 20th and 27th September, children from the four primary schools in the Dennistoun area searched the windows of participating shops to locate the hidden letters. A boy and a girl from each of the primary schools will be presented with a £25 book voucher for handing in the entry form with the most correct answers. Prizes will be awarded by Paul Martin MSP.
Press are welcome, but this portion of the evening will not be open to the general public.
7pm: AGM
As required by constitution, all Dennistoun Community Council office bearers will step down and new officer bearers will be elected by the 15 eligible members. There will also be the adoption of an updated constitution, Chairman and Treasurer’s report.

7.30pm: Public Meeting
One of the roles of the Community Council is to hold an annual public meeting. This year, local bus services are the main topic for discussion. Local elected officials have been invited, as have representatives from First Bus and SPT, to hear any concerns people in Dennistoun have regarding the bus service in the area. If you can’t make the meeting but want to comment on bus services contact DCC via hello@dennistouncc.org.uk. There is also a discussion about the subject on the forum at Dennistoun Online (independent third party site, views unconnected to DCC).

Two updates from Councillor Thewliss in response to points raised by residents at the Public Meeting:
1. Regarding the timing of traffic lights at the Duke Street/Millerston Street/Cumbernauld Road junction. A resident felt that they were causing traffic to queue for long periods on Duke Street, particularly at weekends.
The GCC head of roads has explained that the traffic signals at the aforementioned location are controlled by SCOOT (Split Cycle Offset Optimisation technique). SCOOT monitors traffic flows using loops in the road surface or above ground detectors and optimises the green time for each traffic stage and the cycle time according to the queue lengths and traffic flows. However, two loops on Duke Street/Armadale Street have been damaged, one of which supplies data for the signals at the Duke Street / Cumbernauld Road junction. Consequently, GCC has adjusted the timing of the traffic signals and has arranged for the loops to be repaired.
2. A complaint about the bus stop on the south side of Duke Street, between Whitevale Street and Bathgate Street. There is no real-time bus information screen on this stop, but it is the first one on this busy section of Duke Street, and is therefore quite well-used. It’s hard to tell if a bus is coming along from the Forge from here, so a real-time screen would be very helpful.
The GCC head of roads has confirmed that a request has been forwarded to Scottish Power to connect bus shelter at the bus stop (on Duke Street between Whitevale Street and Bathgate Street) to the mains supply. This work is still outstanding and a programme is still to be supplied. GCC is currently pursuing Scottish Power to complete the outstanding connection of the mains power at this bus stop and several others and hope to achieve a resolution although this timescale is unknown. The intention is also to install a real time passenger information sign at this bus stop and once the mains supply has been connected a sign will be fitted into the shelter.
