Following on from recent good news for Alexandra Parade Primary School, it’s time to make another awards announcement.

A Golfhill Primary teacher has won the Waste Reduction & Reuse Award at the Playbusters Grow Green with Glasgow East End Awards 2011, held at the People’s Palace Winter Gardens on Glasgow Green. She was also presented with the Overall Winner trophy.

They said:

“I am thrilled to accept this award on behalf of Golfhill Primary. All the children, parents and staff have been working so hard to make our school a greener place and its wonderful to have our work recognised!”

By being involved with the eco group at the school they work to encourage recycling and reuse of materials: from making an overall from old polythene bags, to table lamps made from water bottles, or organising collections of old clothes for the ‘Rag Bag’.

Other awards made on the night: Shettleston Community Growing Project (the Sustainable Food & Horticulture Award), Glasgow Bike Shed (for Sustainable Transport Award), The Dalmarnock Centre (for Home Energy Award), PR Print and Design (for Sustainable Business Award).
