Glasgow Doors Open Day is a free festival taking place on the 15th and 16th September 2012 – the 23rd year that Glasgow has hosted the event. It provides a great chance for Glaswegians to become tourists in their own city for a day.
Coordinated by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, Doors Open Days first took place in Glasgow and Ayr in 1990 as part of the European City of Culture celebrations.
This fantastic free event is Glasgow’s way of celebrating its buildings, its streets, its parks and its people – in short, itself! There are tours, walks, talks, seminars and exhibitions in addition to more than 100 buildings being open to let visitors come and get to know Glasgow a little better.
A number of locations in Dennistoun feature amongst the extensive programme of events, such as:
- Wellpark Brewery (Tennent Caledonian) – The home of Tennents Lager, and the largest brewery site in Scotland;
- Dennistoun – The story of a grand design for a middle class suberb & its communities extraordinary variety;
- Historic Guided Walk of Dennistoun – Hosted by Dennistoun Conservation Society;
- Glasgow Necropolis – Glasgow’s victorian cemetery, literally a city of the dead, hosted by Friends of Glasgow Necropolis.
There are also many other events on the doorstep of Dennistoun in the East End and Cathedral area, throughout the city, and nationwide.
