Scottish Water Upgrade Works
Scottish Water Upgrade Works

Scottish Water are working to improve the security of supply to thousands of customers in parts of the East End and the south of Glasgow by upgrading stretches of water mains which have been affected by bursts in the past. They are replacing old water mains pipes with new plastic pipes to reduce the chance of pipes bursting in the future.

The work (carried out for Scottish Water by contractors Farrans) is due to start week commencing 29th October 2012 12th November, last for approximately 12 weeks, and will be carried out in Duke Street, Bellgrove Street and the Gallowgate.  Traffic management will be in operation during this work.

The programme of works [updated, as of 31/10/12] is as follows:

  • Work will start on Duke Street at the junction of Bellgrove Street.  After peak time on Monday 29 October 12th November there will be 4 way traffic lights at this junction.  These will be in place for approximately 2 weeks and will be manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Sliplining of the trunk main along the length of Bellgrove Street where 2 way traffic lights will be in place for approximately 7 weeks.
  • On Monday 12 November After the Christmas holiday period work will start at the Gallowgate at the junction of Bellgrove Street for approximately 3 weeks.  4 way traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works.  These traffic lights will be manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How this affects you:

  • There may be some disruption to your water supply.  If this is to be the case, you will be given at least 48 hours advance notification.
  • During the works, you experience low pressure and/or discoloured water.  If that happens, turn on the cold water tap in your kitchen until the water runs clear before using any water.

Scottish Water ask for your understanding and cooperation while they complete these essential works.
