Dennistoun Traffic Management and Parking Controls Proposals

Introduction

Glasgow City Council (GCC) is proposing to expand parking controls in support of the policies outlined within the Glasgow Transport Strategy.

Plans for Dennistoun have now been published. As well as parking controls, proposals include 20 mph speed limits, one-way streets, junction and footway improvements, expansion of the Co Wheels car club provision, enforceable disabled parking spaces.

Background

Dennistoun Community Council (DCC) engagement with the issue of road safety, traffic and parking in Dennistoun goes back many years, in response to resident comments and concerns, and with the aim of seeking improvements to help create better safer streets for all as part of a thriving sustainable future for our diverse community. DCC has made repeated requests for a comprehensive review and consultation on traffic and parking in Dennistoun. This has not been forthcoming. There have been a series of significant announcements and consultations which have shown some promise, but these have, to date, failed to deliver on their potential. But DCC has continued to engage in good faith with these processes, and sought to foster meaningful communication with GCC and councillors.

A timeline of DCC’s engagement with the issue of road safety, traffic and parking in Dennistoun from 2015 to 2019 (when a previous parking zone for the area was proposed) can be found here (PDF).

Details of DCC’s engagement with various related consultations between 2019 and 2024 can be found via dennistouncc.org.uk/tag/traffic.

In March 2025, GCC followed up on its 2024 road safety, traffic and parking questionnaire, giving DCC an opportunity comment on proposals for a traffic and parking scheme which was being scheduled for publication later in 2025. DCC’s extensive engagement with this process, and the responses provided by GCC can be found here (PDF).

Details of Proposal

The following documents detailing the proposed traffic management and parking controls were published by GCC on 11th December 2025:
