Five positions on Dennistoun Community Council require to be filled

Dennistoun Community Council (DCC) strives to understand and express our shared community priorities in order to promote an inclusive neighbourhood and to engage positively in the delivery of local services, facilities, amenities, planning, and regeneration.

The closing date for submission of a nomination form is Friday 20th December 2024.

Notes for Candidates

  1. When completed the nomination form should be returned by Friday 20th December 2024, which is the closing date to: Community Council Elections, FREEPOST RRAR-TXKT-XREH, Communities Team, Glasgow City Council, 82 George Square, Glasgow G2 1DU or via communitycouncils@glasgow.gov.uk.
  2. All persons aged over 16 years and resident in the Community Council area can stand for election. There are 5 vacancies available for election. All that is required is that the candidate, proposer and seconders’ names appear on the Electoral Register. (Alternative measures for identification and residency status of candidates may be undertaken in certain circumstances.)
    • Uncontested Election: Should 5 or fewer valid nominations be received by the closing date, the uncontested election meeting will take place on Tuesday 14th January 2025 and will begin at 7pm in St Andrews East Church Hall, 685 Alexandra Parade G31 3LN.
    • Contested Election: If more than 5 valid nominations are received by the closing date then a secret ballot will take place on a date to be confirmed in St Andrews East Church Hall, 685 Alexandra Parade G31 3LN commencing at 5.30pm and finishing at 8.30pm.
  3. All persons aged over 16 years and resident in the Community Council area are entitled to vote in elections. To vote at a Community Council election, residents’ names and addresses must appear on the Electoral Register or be confirmed using the alternative measures (see above).
  4. All proposers and seconders must also be resident in the Community Council area and aged over 16 years.
  5. Candidates, proposers and seconders names should appear on the Electoral Register (alternative measures for identification status of candidates may be undertaken in certain circumstances).
  6. Successful candidates elected to serve on the community council, will do so until the next scheduled full election to be held in October 2026.
  7. If you submit a Nomination Form, Community Empowerment Services staff will contact you to confirm the validity of your nomination and will inform you at the close of nominations if a contested election is to take place.

All 17 community councillor (CCllr) positions on Dennistoun Community Council (DCC) now require to be filled, as the current four year term ends in October.

Election Notice: 10th March 2020

The recent call for nominations to fill two community councillor vacancies resulted in more valid nominations than vacancies. This means that there will be a contested election held on Tuesday 10th March between 5:30pm and 8:30pm at Milnbank HA Community Flat, 1 Culloden Street, G31 3NX.

Anyone 16 years of age or over, on the electoral register, with an address in the Dennistoun Community Council area is eligible to vote. The election is administered by Glasgow City Council.

Candidate details will be provided at the venue.
