On Sunday 28th February 2016 Glasgow Allotments Forum and Glasgow Local Food Network will host this year’s Glasgow Potato Day following on from previous successful events in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Potato Day will take place between 11am and 3pm at Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, 13 Whitevale Street, Glasgow G31 1QW.
As the new growing season approaches, there will be over 50 varieties of seed potatoes, potato planter bags, onion and shallot sets, garlic, Kings Seeds, jams and chutneys for sale.
Plot-holders from allotments across the city, community gardeners and gardeners on balconies, in back-courts and private gardens; young and old, all welcome.
The following workshops will be held during the day at noon and 1:30pm:
- The School Garden Calendar
- Permaculture Basics
- Apple Trees and Top Fruit
- Container, Small Space and Vertical Gardening
- Composting – various ways, problem solving
- Looking After Your Soil (inc Green Manures)
Join the Tattie Bash competition, to see who can grow the greatest weight of spuds from one seed potato in a pot, and raise money for charity, with a prize for the top weight of spuds grown. Weigh-ins take place in August.
Refreshments and home baking will be available.
